The Oxymoron of “Christian Democrat”
John 17:17
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”
An oxymoron is “a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction.” I believe the term “Christian Democrat” is an oxymoron.
As a pastor and theologian, I confess to you that I can no longer put Christian and Democrat in the same sentence. I’m not talking about cultural Christianity, but true Christianity that is guided by the Bible alone and its teachings. Because the Bible is my authority I must always side with “Thus saith the Lord.” In John 17:17 Jesus tells us that God’s Word is truth, absolute truth. Therefore, I must measure everything according to that truth regardless of political correctness and wokeness.
So, if I hold to the truth of God’s Word I cannot in all honesty embrace the platform of the Democrat Party. The two are now inconsistent. In other words, I see no possible way one can hold to what the Democrats believe and what the Bible says simultaneously. One cannot have it both ways. To compartmentalize one’s Christianity and party affiliation is not consistent with biblical Christianity whether it is on the enthusiastic support for abortion, the LGBTQIA+ agenda, increasing antisemitism among the radical elements in the party that continue to get louder, and the move leftward toward anti-God socialism. I grew up in small town Arkansas where everyone was expected to be a Democrat. However, the party of my grandparents is not the party of now, even though the name Democrat is still used. The Democrat Party has deliberately left God and the Bible. It has become the party of choice for the secularists, agnostics, humanists, and atheists.
Recently in a Time Magazine article the title was,
‘They Just Walked Away’: New Poll Shows How Badly Democrats Are Losing Christian
Voters of All Stripes.
Both the Democratic Party and its voters are seen as unfriendly toward Christianity. In
David Pagitt’s survey, 58% of Christians see the Democratic Party as hostile to
Christianity and 54% see the same traits among Democratic voters. By contrast, the
same voters say the Republican Party is friendly to the tune of 70% and say the same
about GOP voters at the rate of 72%.

While Democrats hold to the fallacy that it’s their methods of delivery that are turning people away, it is not. What it is, is their extreme and radical message that courts socialism, detests anything God related, and promotes agendas that most Americans simply find repulsive like trans men playing in women’s sports. The message is the culprit, not just the method of delivery. '
As a biblical Christian, always stick to the truth of God’s Word even if it ruffles the feathers of some professed Democrat even if they happen to be in your family, but remember Paul’s admonition in I Corinthians 16:14,
“Do everything in love.”
