LESSONS FROM A JOURNEY TO ISRAEL (Part I)
Recently I had the joy of going to Israel for my first time. It exceeded my expectations.
For the next few blogs, I want to comment about some important reminders as I journeyed to the land of Jesus.
I knew I was in the right place when on the bus we passed a man sitting on a bench in Jerusalem who had a ball cap on. Do you know what it said?
Make America Great Again.
In the shops in Jerusalem those hats are for sale along with one cap that said “Fight.” In fact, one man told me to “feel free and wear your MAGA cap!” Donald Trump has been a true patriot for Israel and America’s relationship with Israel including moving the capital of Israel to Jerusalem something that many presidents have talked about but only this president acted on it. I saw another sign that said, “Make Gaza Israeli again.”
One night we were worshipping at the Southern Steps that lead to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and the speaker spoke of David’s saying, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.” He pointed behind us and said, David was talking about going just over there to the House of God. That moment was so real and so impacting.
The State of Israel invited 1000 pastors and influencers to come and experience a behind-the-scenes look at Israel. We heard from their leaders, their generals, and survivors. It was unprecedented, this had never before happened. It was a way we could show Israel our support for them. It was the first time in history that 1000 pastors and influencers gathered in Israel to show them of our support.
Already in America, media such as CNN have criticized us for standing with Israel siting separation of church and state. Hang on, they aren’t talking about church and state, they are really saying, “Separation of God from our government.” They just can’t swallow the fact that our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ took front and center place in the founding of our great country. Israel is a reminder of that, and the radical left and radical Islam and communism can’t stand it.
As I stood on Israeli ground there are so many reminders of an experience I could only have had in Israel as it related to a biblical event or experience. For all my adult life, I have wanted to go to Israel, but I never dreamed my trip would be sponsored by the State of Israel. Only God could have done that!
Here are some of those REMINDERS:
1. I am reminded that the Jewish people have felt betrayed and greatly grieved by some professing Christians who should know better.
I was reminded that we must demonstrate to those in Israel our unwavering support as we stand with them. Does that mean we agree with every political thing they do? No, but it means we believe they have exclusive right to possess all the land of Israel, including Gaza.
We were able to go to the border of Gaza and to see how close Israel lives with evil constantly knocking on their door. These college professors and students who are siding with Hamas are casting their lot with evil, period. Support even from evangelicals is waning and the voice of evil seems to be winning the minds and hearts of the young. George Barna, who was in our meetings, said that only 1 out of 3 Christians support Israel. These young minds have been indoctrinated in our schools and college campuses. When you see the absolute evil of the Holocaust one wonders how in the world could this culture of hatred toward Jews happen again. Well, it is happening and it’s time we grew a spine and stood up for Israel, especially pastors.
2. I am reminded that there is no two- state solution, one place for Israeli’s and another for Palestinians (Judea and Samaria).
Israel owns all the land, not just part of it. God Himself said so. Anything different is anti-biblical.
