From Motorcycles to Donkeys: What Jesus Teaches Men About True Strength and Leadership
I recently went on my first motorcycle ministry ride with our church group, and it led me to a powerful realization.
Riding a motorcycle can make us feel many ways as a man.
Feelings like proud, powerful, aggressive, cool, confident, manly, and even strong. We have all felt those feelings and more I suppose. But while thinking about this motorcycle ride it occurred to me that Jesus also made a ride in his life.
Jesus rode on that donkey into Jerusalem one week before the dreadful day of his crucifixion. I am sure he wasn’t feeling powerful or aggressive or confident or manly when he jumped on his ride. You see, Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey still resonates today because it flips our expectations of power or confidence compared to those feelings we feel today. Instead of arriving with force or status, he chose humility, peace, and approachability.
In a world that often celebrates dominance and self-promotion, this moment reminds us as men that true leadership and following Jesus can look like service, gentleness, and courage without aggression.
It challenges us to consider how we show up in our own lives—whether we lead with pride or with compassion—and invites a quieter, stronger kind of influence grounded in love and integrity.
So as we ride, whether it’s a motorcycle or the current waves of life, let’s recall Jesus ride into Jerusalem and lead our families and our lives with integrity and humbleness, approachability and love following God is not an easy ride. But if we keep our eyes on him while being a strong but humble servant it will be the most exciting ride imaginable!! So saddle up and start those Bikes of life for Jesus and …
